Colonel Bagshot

The source of DJ Shadow's 6 day war. Incredible song, incredible lyrics! If that isn't Joe Cocker on the fourth verse then i'll be damned. I hear the vinyl is more scarce than sanity at a Palin rally!

They just don't make em' like this anymore do they ?

Do i really need to go into how awesome this is ?

Eskmo

This guy has a new album out. It's good. buy it. Nuff' said.

Kris Kuksi blows minds for a living !

Desmond Dekker

Sometimes you gotta go back to the classics...

Get up in the morning, slaving for bread sir, So that every mouth can be fed poor me, Israelites my wife and my kids pack up, they gonna leave me get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir So that every mouth can be fed poor me, Israelites my wife and my kids pack up, they gonna leave me darling, she said, I was yours to receive poor me, Israelites shirt is a-tear up, trousers are gone I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde poor me, Israelites after the storm, there must be a calm you catch me in your barn, you sound your alarm poor me, Israelites darling, she said, I was yours to receive poor me, Israelites shirt is a-tear up, trousers are gone I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde poor me, Israelites after the storm, there must be a calm you catch me in your barn, you sound your alarm poor me, Israelites

Lar's Von Trier's 'Antichrist'

Crashing in on a string of amazing films i've seen lately, Lar's Von Trier's 'Antichrist' grabs you at the jump with it's stark black and white prologue setting up the story in a suffocating fashion. The film stars basically two characters. Woman (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and Man (Willem Dafoe) grieving over the accidental death of their infant son. When the couple take a trip to their cabin in Eden to try to deal with their grief, chaos ensues. This movie is without a doubt one of the most beautifully shot films i've ever seen. Visually rich, scene after scene, you won't want to miss a second.

Go ahead and make those checks payable to the '700 club' care of ol' Patty here...

HOUSE...

House is a 1977 Japanese film about seven school girls on a trip for the summer to one of the girls Aunt's house. Upon their arrival, things start to take unexpected turns into campy horror. Visually incredible, and unlike anything you've ever seen before, House is a fun and never scary way to spend 88 minutes. Whoever said this film is like an episode of 'Scooby-Doo' meets Dario Argento's 'Suspiria' pretty much nailed it. Spring to the Blu-Ray for maximum visual satisfaction.

Punk before Punk ! Psych Gods, The 13th Floor Elevators !

60's Psych pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators are widely considered to be the beginning of the Psychedelic movement. The Elevators carry with them one of the most insane rock n' roll stories of all time with singer Roky Erickson pleading guilty to a possession charge for one joint and pleading insanity, which subsequently led to stints in a mental hospital where he was subjected to electric shock treatment and experimental chemical doses. In later years outside of confinement, Roky has been known to have multiple tv sets, cheap keyboards, and various radios blarring at full volume in his house in order to overpower the voices in his head.
I guess that's what taking copious amounts of acid will do to you. Other stories include living in caves, imprisonment, and the draft. What the Elevators left behind cannot be measured. Surf-infected Psych bangers mixed with snotty pre-punk ! Check the video below and if you're intrigued and want to know more,
there is a great documentary about the guys and specifically Roky entitled 'You're gonna miss me', as well as an extremely detailed book called 'Eye Mind'. Now, FREAK OUT !!!

the 13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me (1966)

French Sound Library heroes Roger Roger and Nino Nardini !

cover art

Released in 1971, under the blanket of library music anonymity, “Jungle Obsession” is one of those rare and precious records whose extraordinary personality is instantly recognised by the ear of the listener. Timeless…luminous. It’s high time one of the greatest instrumental records of the 70s. A demanding effort, unfalteringly coherent, bordering somewhere along solar exoticism and primitive psychedelics and entirely focused upon the beauty and mysteries of Kipling’s Jungle Book in its hunt for a fascinating artistic El Dorado. Leading this musical expedition, we find two of library music’s greats, the amazing Roger Roger (1911-1995) and Nino Nardini (1912-1994). These outstanding conductors, with already substantial careers behind them, also take the role of mad scientists in the legendary Ganaro Studio, the marvellous Jouy-en-Josas-based lab at the heart of which the two magicians have attempted some of the most wonderful musical experiences ever carried out in France. Going beyond dominant current music styles, they blend genres and dare unprecedented mixes with obvious success. “Jungle Obsession” is the undeniable proof, vibrating willingly to an audacious and minimal orchestration that highlights percussion, whilst a forest of luxurious chords wreathe through savage guitars assaults and an electronic sounding backdrop. Intoxicated by these subtle melodies, these feline rhythms and flagrant poetry, all that is left for us to do is to succumb to losing ourselves definitively in the heart of this savage, fantasy land which gives its most wonderful patents to this spicy and bewitching branch we call exotica.

I too, have seen the horrors of war !

Ladies and Gentlemen, he's been a man since he was a kid, and when he want's your ass, he get's it ! He's, Trouble Man !

The original trailer from the 1972 Blaxploitation film 'Trouble Man'. This classic film also packs one hell of a soundtrack by a guy named Marvin Gaye. Have you heard of him ? May i dare say his best work ? Watch, as T always plays it "cool".

Gonjasufi - Sheep

The mighty Gonja Sufi takes on Sadma's classic Bollywood tune . A simple ode for longing to be a vegetarian ? I guess Gonja just isn't ready to cease his carnivorous ways. Hey, you can't have your pudding, until you eat your meat ! The Gaslamp Killer really flipped that sample to great effect. Check the original below...

Sadma : Yeh Hawa Yeh Fiza Deewano Ko

The Cyrkle - Kites

Here's a tidy little tune from the sexploitation film 'The Minx', by 60's group 'The Cyrkle'.
I almost threw up in my pants the first time i heard those flutes ( in a good way of course).

Serge Gainsbourg and JC Vannier - 'La Horse'

French Pop star Serge Gainsbourg was like that hillbilly relative everyone has that always sports a Pepsi in their hand no matter the situation. Only with Serge, it was a cigarette. Check this suspenseful, yet incredibly funky collaboration with JC Vannier. Also, if you're a fan of Serge and the 45rpm format, there are a few box sets out right now that look quite tasty.
